Flaming back

Started my uneven fire for the first time today after the rebuild, not good :(

Engine starts ok, but will not idle, flaming out of the webers (looks like a GT40 on start up :D )

Where to start to work out whats wrong? thats the question?

Cams are new, andt were set up at 108o, and were only a couple of degress out from the 'normal'. Webers are rebuilt, head was reworked etc etc.

Timing on the ignition on static looks dead on, but the flamming would indicate otherwise.

Anyone got any bright ideas

What instructions/method did you use for timing up the engine?

In respect of ignition or Cam?

Cam
The sprockets were never removed from the chains. TDC was established on number 1, whilst valves on 5 were rocking, timing mark was reset at this.

From timing mark the cams were set at 108o, which required some offset dowels to be made up (1.5o and 2.0o) so no so far off from the norm

Ign
TDC at 1 (5 rocking), dizzie installed so the 'mark' of the body aligns to the dot on the arm.

Bit lost at present so any suggestions gratefully received

shhhhhiiiiiite :D

Found that with a little persaverance that the ignition was 5o advanced, retarded to 10BTDC at idle (which seems at best to be about 1500rpm). Now the carbs have stopped flaming back, but the exhaust still is :twisted:

The exhaust and inlet noise is to be believed, savage to say the least and makes the straight through on my 911 turbo sound like a pussycat purr.

Need sugestions now as to ideas on the BTDC I should set for 1500rpm (vacum disconnected), quiet keen not to destroy my engine before getting it to the rolling road :oops:

No just can't afford all the burnt tarmac on the drive and the vets bills!! The exhaust flaming burnt the dog the other day as well. Stupid (and now deaf ) Mutt :D
