Headbolts

Two diff suppliers and although listed are not correct when they arrive .Correct o/all and thread but 3 times thread length and lower tensile 8.8 instead of 10.9 .Anyone got a contact and knows they are correct ?
Renault want £15.30 + VAT EACH

I asked that question before as the manual is a bit confusing in one aspect ,re asbestos free gaskets .I'd rather use new though .
The ones I have ordered twice are the same as the R25 2.8 as far as I can tell .No tensile # on the old ones I have here . It was just the tensile strength I was concerned about 8.8 when the turbo ones are 10.9 .

You've got to use new ones - the tightening process stretches the bolts.

No I beg to differ......what you mean is you ought to use new ones....but its never been a problem on any of the heads Ive done (must be in double figures now and Ive only once bought a set.....for a K-series that had had its head skimmed after being in bits twice! :roll: ).

and have you never wondered why you have to do cylinder head jobs so frequently? :lol:

Technical web sites say that the angular tightening process is designed to stretch the bolt beyond the point where it will return to its proper length when undone. I guess you'll know to replace them when you start to punch holes in the sump!

I'm with Peter on this, it is half technical (ideally you should) and half marketing (just to get you to buy their expensive parts which subsidise the loasses on the cars they sell too cheap from the showrooms).

I'm not going to use the old ones as they have been on and off before when I had my heads done previous .I would have remembered a £300 bill for bolts :lol:
I have looked at the tightening procedure for the Z7W ,its pretty much the same as far as angle set and torque so I'm sure the new 25 2.8 bolts I have will work fine :wink: It's higher comp as well .
A real professionals opinion would be welcome though ,I won't hold them to it :lol: :lol:
Also the tool fairy has had one of the old turbo bolts away :evil:

Maybe the headbolt scenario is like the timing chain marks...

If you don't tell people to change the bolts, then for all you know your head has been apart 10 times by previous owners, done up, loosened off, done up loosened off...

If you tell people to change them everytime then it rules it completly out..

Likewise with the marks on the chains, they probably say to ignore them, as you don't know if they are the numpties before and he put them in the wrong place.... :lol:

In my sensible opinion, I would change them, so I have the disclaimer to say I told you so if it goes wrong :lol: , but in reality, if you pull them out and they are not two feet longer than they should, I wouldnt worry too much about it... 8)

Ive owned nearly 50 cars now and moe than 60 engines.....so its not too bad! They would need to be stretched by several cms to damage the sump on a GTA! :D

Personally I dont know of anyone who has ever suffered from problems relating to stretched head bolts.........only changed them on the k-series because it had had some serious abuse and several rebuilds/head gaskets already.

Because Ive built a couple of kit cars from bits and Ive had a couple of Skoda rally cars that came with spare engines and Ive had more than a couple of bigger engine transplants into Alfas!
