Octane boost?

Alright guys...happy xmas to you all!

I was filling up down me local garage yesterday and their knocking out bottles of that octane boost stuff (special xmas offer....half price) that you normally see in mo'sport mags? Anyone ever tried it, claims it puts 2+ on any fuel I guess its an advertising crock o' stuff...anyone tried it?

just buy 99 ron from tescos..... much easier on you pocket

It does work......I have used it in the past for events, now however they have reminded everyone its banned (if it didnt work they wouldnt have banned it!) and are conducting random fuel tests at motorsport events. Apparently so many people use it in stage rallying they are making fuel tests mandatory on a lot of events!
Tesco 99 is good........but the nearest Tesco filling station is about 35 miles away! If you add octane booster to 98 (that you can get anywhere) it works wonderfully!

which ain't bad value seeing as cool blue 105 is £5 plus.... a litre

Hey Andy mate.. if ya can do 104 a £3 i might start drinking it...bet its quite nice with a slice o' lemon and a dash of tonic...and might help me give up smokin

still, at 2 squid a bottle for the octane stuff i might add a few to some of tesco's finest and see how it goes!!!!

buy the way whats the score with compatition cars these days????? is it limited on octane or are yous supposed to run just comercial brew??? i guess some chap could go 50/50 with octane boost and a fill from the JET station and never get caught???..

the sunco site is well worth a look, the stuff they do from drag racing 'll make yr eyes water....i guess the days of grp b rally cars and 115 are long gone

for competition, I think the blue book mentions "pump fuel", which I guess excludes all those "home brews".

Yes its pump fuel only with the exception being single seaters in speed events (where some cars run methanol and other odd brews!) and drag cars.
As I said before the use of octane additives is now so prolific that they have issued a formal warning to everyone that they are going to start testing and exclusions will follow!

I've always wondered how much of an advantage the use of these octane boosters gave other people well I'll find out in 2007.

It only an advantage, if you can make use of extra ignition advance without any det..

On a engine that isnt detting, or triggering the knock sensor to cause timing retard, it won't make a difference...

ive also read that it can loose you power because of the slower burn,well thats what they put in a motorbike mag when they was doing back to back testing after readind that i never put it in the sp1 again(ahh them were the days two wheeled fun)

Yep, but bikes rev to say 14000rpm where burn speed is ultra critical... , but then saying that the old F1 Turbo engines used to rev nearly that high (but on toluene)
