Rolling Road Results

Postby Tony Smith » Wed Nov 29, 2006 8:29 pm

Spent a couple more hours on the rolling road today with some good results. Timing was advanced a fair bit, fueling was fine. Set up for 1.2 bar where it produced 232kw at 5056 rpm and 476 Nm of torque - or as I prefer 312 bhp and 351 ft/lbs. Figures at 1 bar were 293 bhp and 317 ft/lbs. This was with everything extremely hot too - 80-90 degree charge temp (this drops to 40-50 on the road so thats worth a fair bit extra power on its own) and ambient air temp of 58.1 due to the air filter pick up position which will be vastly different on the move too as there was no fan to the back of the car.

When you take the temperatures into account and the fact that this is a very low reading rollers (check the transmission loss figures if you doubt this - just 43 bhp) I reckon it'll be making 330 bhp plus on the road.

I'd like to tell you how quick it now goes but the traffic coming home was appalling and the first time I put my foot down it blew a boost hose off - I think this is testament to how much more air was going in as 4-5 runs at the same boost didn't cause a problem at all on the rollers.

The engine does appear to run into a brick wall about 5000 rpm. Obviously alot has been said about restrictive exhaust manifolds but the guy on the rolling road also seemed to think the throttle body was very small too.

Won't be anything to do with the throttle body at that power level, both the Cosworth and 200sx can acheive over 400 on the standard throttle body which is the same at 55mm..

Hard evidence of the 285bhp brick wall on the manifolds though...

Have you got a dyno plot yet? :)

I have a plot - I think Martin is going to post it up later for me as I don't have a scanner.

Yes, with the standard manifolds.

Tony's has produced 43bhp more than stock (but stock has a cat) and its not a 'standard' engine running just more boost, it is decatted, bigger turbo, CC etc..

:?: :?: Don't understand :?A modded 610 engine in the same way you would a GTA lump to achieve the highest output possible .

Quite simply, a tube can only flow X amount(until dimishining returns) no matter how hard you blow through it.. :)

Nope, you've lost me now, I don't know what your getting at...

Yes, A610 will make better power than a GTA below the point of restriction as it has half a litre capacity, better heads, cams helping it, but ultimately, when you stick a bottle neck on the end of it all, it doesnt matter what spec or engine you have, CFM is CFM = power

Much like a certain turbo could flow 400cfm absolute max and make 200bhp - but if you spin it at 200psi, it will still only flow 400cfm. :)

43 bhp over A610?

Postby Tony Smith » Wed Nov 29, 2006 9:56 pm

I thought A610's put out 250 bhp - I reckon my car has 50-60 bhp more at the wheels than an A610 although I'm sure a standard car probably has more torque below 3000 rpm.

250bhp with a cat,

Your car made 293 which is 43 over a 'catted' A610, about 28-33 over a non catted car.
