Air duct

Has anyone experienced overheating problems due to not having the critical air duct situated between the radiator and grill?

Could this be why my car consistantly overheats when it's driven yet never when stationary?

Either way, it's in safe hands at Roadspeed in Stroud having the cooling system rebuilt as the steel pipes running under the car look a bit worse for wear...

cant really answer that but ive been running the car withouy a bumper on and it stays very cool 8)

Haven't got the duct on mine + I have aircon ,never had any probs due to airflow , only blockages :lol:( head gasket ) :evil: .Even when my fans packed in it kept cool on the move .I think your problem will be ......................................................................................

No problems..., I ran my red GTA turbo without a sheild all the time I had it, as a friend drove over it when I was changing my front bumper..

That's what i thought, i still think it's the pesky HG's even though the steel coolant pipes look like they've seen better days.

The car was left running for hours the other day when stationary and didn't overheat yet i'm told after a few tests it's doubtful it's the head gaskets...

I can guarentee if i drove it for 25 mins it would go to it's favorite place - the red zone :evil:

The car must have overheated badly atleast 12 times now - surely that's enough to destroy the headgaskets by now? And i'm no expert....

Mr Jon, when your car is in the red zone, is the rad fan on? If not, perhaps you have an air lock or your gauge is very unreliable if it has survived 12 overheatings.

Have you tried running it without the thermostat since you had the new engine?
I'm just here for the gasoline.

When the cabin heater is on hot, does it suddenly go cold then return to hot :?:

New engine? I wish!

Tried all sorts, it hasn't had a thermostat in for months, the new fan works and kicks in as and when it should. Even bridged it at one stage but still made no difference.

I know the temp guage is working correctly as it normally eats a hose when it gets to the red zone.

It's got to be the hg's. The engine has been flushed so many times now and i've spent a fortune p*ssing about with this that and the other... :?

Radiator chuffed :!: :!: My first GTA did this ,flushed it so much Severn Trent put me on a meter :evil: :lol:

Mr Jon, have you had the rad off and had it inspected.
For a few quid a local rad specialist will take off the end tanks and you will be able to see through every row and make sure they are clear and unblocked. They will also be able to pressure test it after, to make sure the end tanks are on well and that you do not have any pin holes, which could also suck air into the system as the cooling system cools down.
Maybe ask Roadspeed to get the rad inspaected for you?

I suppose if you have the heads off for the HGs then at least you will get a good look into the block as see if there is something in there getting in the way of water flow?

HG's still on at present and the radiator is being reconditioned for £220 :shock:

There is sign of coolant leakage from the back of the rad, so i guess it's a good place to start.

As i said earlier, my instinct is telling me that any car that's overheated that many times MUST result in damged headgaskets.
