Creak creak!

Postby peterg » Sat Jul 29, 2006 7:22 pm

I have a very annoying creaking coming from my passenger side rear suspension area. Ive lubed all the joints but it doesnt appear to have helped much. Anyone else experienced this annoying trait....or know what it is?

Sometimes the anti roll bar bushes in the wishbone swell and rub causing creaking...

Mine creaked very badly on the nearside until i renewed all the wishbone bushes, then stopped completely. The offside now creaks so i reakon the bushes will need doing there soon! I did renew anti roll bar bushes both sides at the time.

Yup,
Looks like its a common problem, my A610 squeaks too- it didn't when I bought it (but one of the other ones I looked at did squeak loudly- one of the factors that put me off).
It initially started to squeak only when moving slowly, but its now doing it at higher speeds too.
I had it looked at recently and was told that the bushes were Ok but it might be the shocks. To be fair I was told they weren't split or displaced, swelling is more difficult to diagnose.
How much are the bushes?- I've been quoted 150 each for the shockers, so want to start at the cheapest point first. £300 to still have the squeaks is an expensive mistake.
Can you lubricate them as a diagnostic test?

Lee

(PS- I now have very good A/C though, so the creaks are heard more as the windows are usually closed.........)

Mine squeaks too.
It's definitely the bushes (either anti-roll or actual wishbone bushes) - I plan to clean up the whole area with a wire brush anyway and paint the exposed areas. Maybe a good clean up will help.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

I can't see why not, but I think a silicon lube spray may be a wiser choice than oil/WD40 (but I'm happy to be told otherwise).

Jetwash the whole car in WD, rust prevantative and squeek quietener in one..

As Andy said, a silicon lube or copper slip substance would be suitable, nothing that eats rubber preferably....

Are they rubber? I thought the wishbone bushes were poly or nylon?
