Alternator suppressor

Postby simontaylor » Tue Jun 13, 2006 3:13 pm

Basically, where does it go, please?

I took it off when I replaced the alternator last year and never got round to putting it back on. Now I think I am suffering some interferance so thought it would be a jolly good idea to put it back on, but can not remember which teminals it went on, and neither can I find any clues in the parts manual, workshop manual or electrical manual.

see this picture of the old unit and suppressor, the terminal on the left is labeled "M" with 2 little wires on it (probably Earths ???) and the one on the right is "+" which has the big red feed wire on it (output/feed to battery probably).

Thanks in advance.

Tie wrapped to the rear outrigger near the alternator .It think it attaches to the M terminal ,if you have a look, the connectors are diff sizes and I think it will only fit on one .

Lee you can not be serious!!! Sounds like your car is a victim of POI.

Both ends of the suppressor will fit the larger "+" terminal, they just look smaller in the depth of field.
The bracket of the suppressor has to be bolted somewhere (see the hole in it) and this is to be earthed I think, and the red fly wire goes somewhere else? but where.

Could some one have a rummage around under their car please.

plastic car, a tie wrap and an Earth........that's one hell of a lucky way to set up a french car.
I'm thinking that the lead should go to the + terminal though.

In the wiring manual, sheet 165, + is a 10mm sq. (big) red wire that goes to the battery and the other is black and is Earthed as well as going to the fuel pump, which explains why I can feel 2 wires on the M terminal.

Earth, what is french for Earth? does it begin with M?

I'm just not sure I want to connect the + to the Earth with this suppressor when there is up to 90 Amps going around the place :?: :?: :?: . One Alternator was enough.
