PRV V6 Project (Need Help!)

Postby PRVv6 » Wed Mar 01, 2006 1:54 am

Hello, first of all I must say that I am proud to have found a community in which embraces such a beautiful car. I have never seen this car in my life, but i'd definately like to show my friend with his 300zxtti whats up!!

Anyhow, let me get to the point. I have a 1988 Volvo 780 which has the PRV v6. 2849cc. My plan is to my engine to 3.0 Litres. With a few hundred bucks I can get heads with better flow (larger intake orphaces) from either a Dodge Monaco or an Eagle premier. I've invested a lot of money and my time into boosting this Engine (I have to worry about the drivetrain more than the engine now). I would like to upgrade from a single overhead cam, small port intake manifold to a nice breathable head, preferably DOHC, any Ideas of how I can achieve this goal of mine? I wanted to ask in the for sale section but I don't have enough permission.

Thanks for reading!!

I take it you have retained the standard engine up until now? The best route would be to junk your 12v PRV and get the later 24v DOHC version.....instant success for a few hundred quid...sorry bucks! I assume some car or other will have it in the US.

What you need to do Steve is take the lump out, strip it down and rebuild it with all the trimmings, then put the Bling back on .

i know, was talking head and cams and manifolds today to my dad(another power freak) he was telling me to get the heads from prima 600 quid i think but they dont have the big valves then its 1000 quid for the manifolds  (but i know the quality is second to none) then probably 400 on a pair of cams but it doesnt stop there coz the clutch will need replacing all in all a total bill of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and a good kicking of the girlfriend for spending that on the car

The prima heads are just gasflowed, no bigger valves, or ports. Don't waste your money..

No its not, why spend the money increasing the capacity, improving the heads, putting in better cams, when there is an engine out there that already has these parts..? :)

huh, Im not talking about a non PRV here....

Steve for instance, wants better heads, cams and bigger valves, maybe bigger capacity..

So, he could use heads off a Laguna (as they have bigger ports), and cams from a Laguna (as they are longer duration), and valves from a Laguna( as they are larger), and even the pistons/crank from a Laguna (to bring it to 3.0 capacity with low compression)..

So whats the difference in taking all these things and fitting them to whats left of a 2.5 block, or just putting in the Laguna engine (as both blocks are actually identical ?

..and do you want to hear some more interesting info....

The wildest GTA prototype Alpine made was the 2.0 Turbo 4x4...

..and the most powerful V6 GTA made was the Production at 330bhp, 2.8 on Lucas Mechanical injection, but the year after, they planned to replace the V6 with.....

....the four cylinder turbo unit from the Renault 5 :D

Don't mock me, I like the 'ol V6
