Gear oil

Had a bit of an oil leak from my gearbox(A610)since i got it and I'm gonna fix it tommorow.Its been leaking from one of the driveshaft seals, I've got a new seal and oil,anyone got any tips, or things to watch out for,is there a hole in the floor for refilling the box?

I think this has been covered in a thread somewhere ,you need a mastic type sealant also .No hole in the top, you need a bit of pipe to squirt the oil in thro the side hole till its level with the bottom ,ie ,keeps coming out :lol: Try to do this with the car as level as poss ................

Mastic type sealant??Whats that for?

Before i got the car someone has done an inner cv joint boot where its leaking..........maybe they did'nt use the sealant :?

You need the sealant to go over the driveshaft pins when you put it back together....otherwise oil can leak out through the pin.

Hmmm,so the oil can leak through the drive splines and out the pins,think i should have checked that first

Hi Jamie,
My A610 has the same problem- oil everywhere around the output shafts on the gearbox. I thought it was the seals gone, but after some cleaning it looks like it's all coming out through the roll pin hole on the left side.
This happens to be the side where a new wheel bearing was fitted a couple of years ago- and there is no mastic through the pin, just a little blob of silicon sealer at the end, trying to cling on in amongst the oil.
Looks like the garage that did this work (in France) did not know about the mastic either.
I'm hoping that a squirt of the right mastic will cure things for me.

Does anyone know where you can get the right stuff?- the manual is pretty specific?

After having a good look at it today think its defo the pins.I've cleaned it up and sealed it for now and I'll see how it goes,If all is good in a few weeks I'll chage the gear oil,spotted a nice engine oil leak while I was under it :( copper washer required but its a bit of a shite to get to,air-con compressor out job me thinks......the joys of owning an Alpine :)

speeking of gearboxes dose anyone no if the drain and fill plug should be a 10mm female square
