Drive Shaft Boots (Gators)

Postby Peter Doyle » Mon Oct 24, 2005 11:10 am

I seem to be eating into my Alpine, like a mad explorer diving deeper into the jungle......... My electric problems seem to be fixed and I have the damn TDC sensor and new coil back in the car.... Hurrah!

However whilst up on blocks decided to put new disks all round (standards can't afford 4 pots) and replace the handbrake cables.... Seemed like a good proactive idea! However I have discovered the drive shaft boots are split and MOT is looming.... Renault want c. £40.00 each x 4 thats ..ehhh well lots of dosh for a bit of rubber!

Is Renault the only option for these... from trails on drive shafts looks like these are specific to Alpine....

GTA 2.5 Turbo D501.....

Thanks

PS: By the way does everyone know the electric window motors are off a Renault 25 - CIF type... only watch out for handed, they are opposite to GTA... i.e. nearside is offside... Just paid £15 for perfect example locally...
"5's getting rare now though....

Yes, the gaitors are very small, because the inside boot runs very close to a chassis rail, and if it was any bigger, would rub on it.

I have used a universal type before off another car, can't remeber which one it was though. You are best off measuring up the shaft and the joint casing and going to your local motor factors and measuring up.
