look guys if you know anything about applied maths the coeefficent of fricition would be most vital factor in calculating effective power ( based on mechanical grip) for example I am sure different tyre manufacturers will be quoting different coefficents , so irrespective of the actual power output of your respective vehicles if you can't put it out on the road then you can't compare like with like so in other words unless you have all used the same tyres and the same rolling roads you are all talking complete bullocks!

Yep its all bullocks unless youre comparing yourself to....yourself!
Blimey hasnt there been a lot of debate about the chargecooler!!! I'm just going to fit it and use it knowing it will work to some extent or other! :D
Simonsays.....you have a lot more tuning options on your atmo than on a turbo.....I would be wasting money rolling roading it at the minute because there are no variables to play with....I dont have the time or money to complete public interest testing unfortunately

Rolling Roads

Postby Tony Smith » Sat Jan 21, 2006 8:18 am

Yep they all read a bit differently and the tuner can make them read very differently to provide inflated power figures if he so wishes. So there are 2 ways around this. Like Peter said is it faster on a circuit but obviously there are other factors involved like cornering speed etc that will effect this. Best test is terminal speed over a 1/4 mile as that isn't affected by traction. Or use the same rolling road where you know and trust the operator. I've always used Power Engineering in Uxbridge as I know their rollers are bang on they are a good bunch of guys.

Surly the charge cooler does need testing for gains though? no doubt there will be gains but it would nice to know what gains?.
Its not much different to the claims made for the Buddy club earthling kit except that was tested before and after :?

Quote from that thread;
RIBS What do you reckon? worth a extra 5bhp just done a search on this Grounding condenser (Not the cheaper ones) and guess what The Honda-Nissan,Toyota forums have been getting the same results or better
What do you reckon Worth 5 BHP on a Alpine or not.

Saying that funds permitting i am sure i will end up buying the charge cooler kit from David in the not to distant future, Would feel better knowing the gains from the kit though :)

That Buddy thing says 5bhp onto of the existing 285.
I doubt a stad GTA at 200 or a modded one at say 250 will see the full 5 bhp, probably more like 3 or 4 and that depends how exagerated the original 5 was.

Theres a difference between need and nice to know....which is why I will leave it to someone else! This thread is just going round in circles now!!!! I have the kit....as soon as I have the hose I'll fit it and sort some photos etc out.

:

But the problem is, the charge cooler will gain different amounts on different cars. On a standard GTA running 10psi it may only gain 20bhp, on one running 16psi, it may gain 40bhp, due to the higher pre intercooled chargetemps..

So a bhp figure can be relevant to somebody and irrelevant to another..

End of the day, I have a customer with a MR2 Turbo that has one, and has made 32bhp extra at 13psi, and the MR2's don't have the same massive heat problems as the GTA's do..

This is different to the Buddyclub kit scenario, as thats a 'maybe' mod.., if all your earths are good, then it can't make a difference. It just fixes a problem if there is one. Power is made by fuel, air and spark. If they are all good already, then band aiding your earths won't nessecarily gain you 'power'

:)

+ 30/40 BHP sounds 8) i am thinking at 16psi with other mods thats 260ish bhp + 30/40 bhp with the charge cooler = 290/300 BHP maybe the clutch will let us know if we are getting that sort of power :?: :(

You'd be looking more like 260-270 best case scenario..

Do you think this would work :?:
Seems good value but no power figures quoted

Probably worth about 50 bhp but you'd need to fit them front and rear for maximum effect. Also you'd need to work out some sort of linkage arrangement to pull the levers.

lee, I think you will need 4 of them.
All to do with the voltages and the 12 volts you already have on board.
After all, you do not want to be carrying all that extra weight in AA batteries.
