They obviously have the potential to pull good 60fts which will equate to a quicker 1/4mile time but I'll rephrase my question about the weak links in the drivetrain- lets say your car will be producing 350lb/ft at 5000rpm, you are running street slicks, using launch control to build boost off the line. Drop the clutch, full throttle gear changes through the box; what will be the components that are most likely to fail under abuse?

Peter G, how hard do you launch your car at the sprints, what clutch and pressure plate are you using, are you experiencing much wheelspin or wheelhop?

I drop my clutch at over 5,000 revs at sprint events. Standard clutch and box and 10 inch Toyo Proxies on the back. No wheelspin and I hit the 64ft beam in about 2.35 secs, same as the 4 wheel drive scoobys and evos. I did about 30-40 starts last year on a new clutch, which will get examined next weekend when I've got the engine out.

i have never measured more than a 0.05 bar drop througt the throtle body, however i had a drop of 0.6 bars throught the stock intercooler at a certain stage. concerning the exhaust manifolds, remember you want to keep velocity high, so you shouldnt go to larger tubing. and yes, a large downpipe (100 mm) helps alot, but only if the muffler is up to the task.

100mm down pipe? Thats 4"! :shock:
I run no muffler at all on a single turbo with 63mm downpipe and have no noise problems at all.
I launch in a similar fashion to Simon....about 5000rpm and get no wheelspin in the dry and I also run a standard clutch.

0-60 ft is the ultimate test figure for a traffic light grand prix. Anything under 2 secs is very quick. Trouble is some cars are harder to launch than others. Scoobys and Evos are very hard on the transmission because of their massive traction. The set up on the Skyline GTRs is fantastic for launches. (I was running 1.8 sec 0-60ft times at the pod last year) In my experience the GTA (and other rear engined cars) are tough on the clutch as you need to slip it a bit to get a good launch.

i may go to yorkdragway this year and hopefully put in some decent times (although im a novice when it comes to launching a rear engined car)
