Most of my saving will be from the back....hardly any from the front. Part of the idea is to alter the handling characteristics....just a little! I will compensate for it with tyre and suspension set up if necessary.
So far Ive taken the metal seat back out of one rear seat (weighing in at 4.5kg), the rear speakers and started stripping out the rear belts, the front belts (have harnesses) and the soundproofing round the rear seat. I'm collecting everything in a bag to weigh it. Not even half done yet and I can hardly lift the thing! Theres got to be 30 or 40kgs worth I reckon.
When I go to the weigh bridge I'm aiming for 1000kg 8)

260bhp per ton

Postby Tony Smith » Wed Feb 16, 2005 9:14 am

260 bhp is seriously rapid territory. I know your not into drag racing Peter but just in case you wanted to compare figures in the back of Evo magazine that should get your car up the 1/4 mile in 12.8 - 13.2 seconds. In theory you need about 250bhp per ton with traction to break the 13 sec barrier - but it never quite works out that way! A Ferrari 355 will only run mid to high 13's so might be worth hunting one down to see the look on the drivers face you  then  . Him - 8) then  then  then :(

To put it into context though, the Venturi 260 (with 260 bhp!) and weighed 1100kg had a factory 1/4 mile figure of 13.1 seconds, with the same gearing etc....so fingers crossed!. It depends how much mechanical sympathy Pete's got...

Sounds good to me! Of course I wont manage 260bhp per ton when I add my 13 stone to the equation.....need to find a way of making it go by remote!!!!

Well Ive saved 37kgs!!! Thats padding behind the seat, metal seat backs, all seatbelts (inc all fixings nuts and bolts) and rear speakers. The rear seats dont look any different....theyre just held in with velcro and unusable!

WOW, 37kgs, thats half a passenger. It will be interesting to hear (sorry about the pun) if it is a lot louder in the cabin without all that soundproofing.

I was going through the handbook this evening and the turbo model is 60kg heavier at the rear than the atmo, and the atmo has the spare wheel at the back too!. The only extra weight I can see on the turbo is the turbocharger (about 10kg), intercooler (3kg), intake/air filter pipes (4kg), heat sheilding around turbo (2kg)....unless the turbo models are quoted with the heavier folding rear seats??

Also the ECU, loom and two big metal bars that support the rear bumper. Rear fuel tank, injection pump, filter and loads of other bits I've probably forgotten.

I dont have the metal bars that hold the rear bumper....thats a result!!! Theres extra pipework on the turbo as well...must account for a few kilos.....oh and extra fans. That and the other things lited will probably about do it I'd say.
