+ they are very good at reshaping arches

I just can't get rid of any of the tread on the Nankangs on my LS400, and they often get really serious abuse! I'll be pleased if they last as long as the car.

Don't rule out the bearing!! I had a similar problem with noise between 40 -80, although not a great deal of vibration. I thought it was the driveshaft, but it turned out to be one of the race tracks had a pock mark in it. Jack it up and check bearing for play, if it is as bad as you say - you should be able to distinguish between shaft and bearing??
Bearings are not cheap though £75 approx., but cheaper than a driveshaft.

The best thing about them is that the rubber is so hard you can get a real good shine on them. Use a quality polish and you'll be able to see your face in them
