A winter runabout should be a 'zero interest' car or else it'll distract time (& money) from the GTA and you'll have 2 part completed projects on the go.
Ge a boring but reliable car with a good heater.

Sorry Liam, but I don't want a diesel. Commuting 110 miles per day, I like to arrive refreshed even after the M25. Nothing does it easier than an LS400.

When's the last time you drove a diesel? New modern diesels have more power and torque than most petrols, they have better economy, and are quieter at speed. They're also more relaxing to drive, with less need to downshift. My mate's driving a 300bhp Scooby, and he couldn't shake off a 1.9TDi Toledo till 90mph

Liam, I have suffered too many company cars for too long. I have saved for 25 years for a Ferrari and still don't have one. I've had Rovers, Pugs and Vauxhalls too. Last car was Vectra TDi, good on ecomomy (54 mpg over 60k miles), yes good torque, a bit noisey at speed, overall ok but I was not going to pay 6k for it at the end of its lease. I'm sure the newer diesels are even quieter and torqier, but really there is no substitute for the most luxurios performance executive car, with 275 ft/lb of torque under my big toe. 50-80 is stunningly rapid, but no one seems to want to race it. Oh yes, they are available for £3k for a pretty decent one and built well to last for ever, like a diesel.
