Id prefer to have one - the engine is consuming the boost and water vapour through the inlet valve that is open. On a direct port, you are pooling water on the back of the 3 other valves..Its not triggered sequentially for the cylinder that is being used..

WI, when further upstream is also cooling the intake system too, when its at the port, its just before the valve, so this doesnt really take place.

With you what you are saying Dave, but isnt there a risk if i mount a single injector say on the top of the intercooler (already mentioned) that one or more cylinders might not get sufficiant cooling risking detonation (meaning a jet can only spray/cool a certain area in the intercooler) or am i talking c--- :? :) the people that should know seem reluctant to offer there advice :(

.. its not like fueling, where you are trying to get an even amount of fuel to each cylinder. End of the day, without it, you could be getting 80 degree C to each port, if you put a single WI at the intercooler, then they will all be getting the same lower temps to each port..

If anything, its a safer system than a multiport system, as if one of your WI injectors fails, then one port will DEFINATELY be getting hotter air than the rest,..

you only need one jet into the intercooler as this will quench the charge perfectly , 4 jets won't make any difference just add problems and expense . Use the basic erl kit at aprrox £350 because it's the best and if running high boost your engines life will depend on it . The t2 charge temp hits 80 degress after about 8 seconds of full throttle on 15 psi robbing about 40 bhp at the same time , i know because i've measured it !!!!

Any ideas on the jet size?

The jet comes with the kit , take a look at e.r.l.'s web site as it's very good . I'm on holiday tomorrow for 1 week so if you buy a water injection kit get a good one as a cheap one on ebay will probably fill your cylinders with water instead !!!!!!!!

If 'boostrider' is the Gary that I think it is, listen to him.
He's taken his (now sold) down 'the pod' in indecently fast times.

He can also tell you about the gbox weaknesses

Even if he is running a german thing at present.

Looks like mounting the wi jet on the top of the intercooler is the place, what would be the best position? (on the pic the middle sender at the back of the IC is a Spa boost sender, further down is another boost sender which will be coming out soon, if ? where the spa sender sits is the ideal position it could be moved)

Just looking on this forum http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... 157426&h=0

Would this work on a T2 or GTA? i think theres mixed feelings with mounting a fan on a intercooler, if it works on a M12 why shouldnt it on a T2 or GTA

I think it would work, after all an efficient IC relies on getting as much air through it as possible, "cold" air of course.

lol, have another look on the Noble forum for 'intercooler fan conversion' and they are all interested in changing up from the fan conversion to one of my chargecoolers.. 8)

Coming in halfway along this discussion, sorry. Everything I know about water injection is pretty much what's on Aquamist's website, and it's very good. The science seems sound and all your questons are in there (or at least were when I last read it!). You need to put the injector as immediately downstream of the intercooler as possible to allow good vapourisation. You're not putting a mist of water into the intake, you're looking for it to vapourise, and that takes time - the longer the better. This takes energy out of the combustion process by robbing heat and therefore expansion, but mostly this allows you to burn more fuel more efficiently, so the benefits tend to outweigh the costs when you're running a lot of boost.

Ref fans on intercoolers.... it's an air-to-air heat exchanger and it makes sense to me that you want to flow a similar amount of air over the cooler as you're flowing through it, if you want a decent heat transfer to take place. At high boost, say a bar, on a Z7U (if my memory serves and without recalculating it) at 5000rpm, the IC is flowing 166litres of air per second.. I'm not sure even thumping great big rad fans flow anything close to that, so you're left with relying on the thermal mass of the intercooler and the fan's ability to cool it back down after a power run... which leads neatly into when it DOES work.... which is when playing with chargecoolers like Dave's, because they have a heowge thermal mass compared to an intercooler. You're not doing a direct heat exchange, you're tranferring wasted heat in the intake to heat up a load of water. Unless you're driving flat out for extended periods (minutes) then you'll be able to lose that excess heat through a comparatively small rad over a longer period than the 1/4 mile run :-) If you are running flat out for minutes on end, you're probably going quite fast and airflow over the pre-rad should be at least marginally healthy, depending on placement of course.
