New Project - GTA Turbo

My new GTA has a few problems that need addressing

First off is the rear (lower wishbone) Anti Roll Bar bushes. The car drove OK when I picked it up but seemed to be "bouncing" around a bit. At first I though it was worn shocks but upon further inspection the rear drivers side anti roll bar bush had split and come away from the wishbone :shock:

The other side is intact but split slightly so I would like to replace both. Anyone any tips for fitment or have a couple spare? Looking in old posts Dave G mentions a different rear suspension for later cars, is this the case?

Have fun .................they are really cheap from Renault ,under a tenner for both I think and a couple of days wait. I have the bolts as my new tubular wisbones needed slightly longer ones ,yours foc.

Fitting them is another matter :evil:

You can't remove the bar so they have to be pressed on in situ .Took me a good day to do both sides ,but I think I've got the hang of it now :lol:

I'll give you a hand with them perhaps :wink:

Would you happen to have the part number/s knocking around for the bushes so I can order them from Renault mate?

They're annoying enough when the bar is out of the car! It took me a couple of hours and I have a press!

The words "special tool" kept floating into my brain, following on from "they must have had a..."

Paul Sage told me he had a tool for the job off the car ................
I used the weight of the car to press them home over a stack of sockets etc .Difficult on your own but shouldn't be anywherenear as bad with two bods on the job .One to align and guide ,the other to work the jack :roll:

Would be well worth knocking up a little device for the job in situ .A bit of tube welded to a large flat baseplate would do the job .

NB they -can't- be hit on with a hammer (just bounces), they have to be pushed on with a progressive force.

Got the bushes on order.

I think there is an earthing problem somewhere, or at least I would like to check them out and clean them. Where are the main ones on the car?

I remember one in either footwell?

Yes, I think there's one in both footwells behind the carpet, one underneath on the chassis bolted to the gearbox, one on both rear suspension turrets in the engine bay and most importantly, check the main battery earth is good.

BTW Martin, just curious, but why have you bought another GTA turbo when you already have, what seems, a perfectly good one? Are you just twice as insane as the rest of us? :lol:

Could not resist it Justin. I'm selling my perfectly good example (or trying to) and Yes I must be mad starting again with new problems, it's all part of the fun though

Big Thank you to Clee who helped today. The actual fitting of the bushes wasn't too bad (Lee has pretty much perfected the art) it was getting the old wishbones off :roll:

Just need to get a couple of bolts out then do a mini refurb on the wishbones and refit them.

It's back together again

New anti roll bar bushes fitted and did a refurb on the lower wishbones.

Thanks to Clee and Turbodog for all your help!

MOT now to do over the weekend :roll:

2 Days of polishing then required, plus sort the hot running problem out, probably needs a flush of coolant or a new rad.
