A610 Dashboard removal to cure rattles etc.

Postby Bazzer501 » Tue Aug 08, 2017 7:20 am

OK, I'm now getting to the stage where finally my A610 how I want it, sorted and reliable...touch wood!
But the one thing that bugs me SOOOO much is the rattles and noise I get from the dashboard, even the slightest road bump seems to generate rattles and noise from the dash that really spoils going out in the car. :thinking
All the dashboard and the switches etc work and function fine but it seems that they are all loose and rattle...and it appears can only be accessed from within the dash.

I'm not aware of the dash ever being removed before, which isn't to say it hasn't but removing a dash is something I've never attempted but I so want to try and cure this rattle problem, if indeed I can.

Can any members offer advice on removing a dash...safely...and whether rattly switches etc can actually be cured...or is it just the cheap plastic!

Am I the only A610 owner with this problem...? I never had it with my previous A610. Any advice or help welcome.

Cheers, Barry.

Yes it can be fixed but it normally rattles from the binnacle it is not that easy for the first timer.
You have to remove the air ducts from each side, and the steering wheel and plastic cover, once you have the ducts out top right and left at the back are the fixing bolts, remove with care and make sure you keep the dash level as the gauges have damping in them and they will not work properly if you leave them upside down or on the side. I found that the bulk of the squeaking was the binnacle moving and rubbing on the remaining dash, you will see areas where it has been rubbing I stuck some felt on these places and then replaced the binnacle and the noise seems to have gone away.

I have heard the same, it is just rubbing. and the way to cure it is with a little squirt of silicone spray.
2 min job.

I've been through this, it used to drive me nuts. I cut felt to size and glued to the back of the binnacle all the way around as suggested above. It's transformed the car. Well worth the hassle getting the thing off and back together. It doesn't rattle or squeak at all now.
