1991 Alpine GTA Service Manual?

Postby jgarriock » Wed Feb 08, 2017 9:18 pm

Hello all,

I've recently become the owner of a Japanese-built 1991 Alpine GTA V6 turbo. I'm having some electrical issues with it - all my turn signals flash if I push the stalk in either direction, the fuel display is dead and the speedometer doesn't work. I'm having trouble finding a service/workshop manual for it so I can get it serviced. Does anyone have one for sale, or have a digital copy they can share? Wiring diagrams for the stalks and speedo would be useful too.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,
I can't really help with the indicators lol, still working on that myself!

But from my experience I would say check the back light on the fuel display, if you want to see if it works 1st then shine a bright touch on it and you should be able to see the numbers just. Pic of the bulb below it's different from the rest.

The speedo you may want try cleaning the connector block behind the rear off side wheel low in the engine bay, one of the three plugs there carries the signal.

THAT, is the manual to have.
Read it from cover to cover and you will be swamped with gems of "how it works".
Always a good idea to re read it when ever you have an issue, especially electrical gemlins.

In addition to the comments above by people that do have a clue about electrics (whereas I don't), I can only add "Check your earths", as it's a very very regular issue with Fibreglass/Polyester/Non Metal cars.

MR 273 worth it's weight in gold. Also wiring diagrams for the model year are a must for the electrics once you get your head around how it works! Part no 77 11 085 673 is for 1989 but I guess much of it will be similar for other years. Unless someone proves me wrong?

Good stuff Jeff. They never made Alpines in Japan, although they did sell them there. There have been a few second hand Alpine from the likes of Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore that have made it to other countries. Although the Japanese drive on the left side of the road, they like things that are different. So lots of left hand drive 2CVs were sold there new for example, some ending up in New Zealand.
I have the wiring diagram (factor book) for the 90 model year if that is any help - happy to scan stuff if needed.
