Tinted rear lights: de rigueur or passe?

Tinted rear lights: de rigueur or passe?

After about 8 months of deliberation I'm finally the proud owner of a GTA Turbo. Question; I think I'm right in saying they never left the factory with tinted rear lights which are a bit dim I think( on a number of levels) Anyone had experience of removing the tint without destroying the lights? Me I'm all for originality.....as far as practicable!

1980s music centre lid...is the look you need for OE.

If they are 90s HiFi..then they've had a tint...

..I'd probably leave well alone as they are fragile and expensive to replace...I think that Phil Tim from France had had some remade
.but a few hundred euros each for the covers alone.
Mr Jolly or Mr Lloyd on here have dabbled with tints I think to get lights to match...but i'm not heard if untinting...
One reason for a tint could be one was replaced and has odd colours... there are some pinker than others...(I have one ex elan lights that is pinker..and planned to tint to match)..

My originals have barely a tint to them, the remade covers were tinted down so they matched as one was darker as moulded, so unless someone knows of a tint removing solvent , I think you will be taking a big risk to try and reduce the time, brighter bulbs might be easier...leds maybe?
These clear plastics are quite sensitive to solvents so be very careful if you do try to remove the tint, my smart has plastic side windows and a splash of petrol is a disaster, which is a shame as the filler is beside them.
The pair of new covers cost me 450 Euro plus 50 shipping, that was when the pound bought 1.3 euro. I haven't had the courage to fit them as yet, but need to as I have a bit missing.

Ah! Originality comes at a price then (I'm sure I've got one of those 80s music centres in the attic! ). A case of if it aint broke don't fix it!

Congratulations Lee on making the leap of faith into Alpine ownership. You may regret it in the short term while you learn lots, but its a great car through and through.

Any pictures to show us all?

Thought the petrol gauge didn't work...but it does. Hurrah! Only the speedo to sort now......until I find something else. Pretty well pleased that all electrics work. Bonus.

Yep. Kind of does quite successfully! Thanks Lee. Finished product looks good on the 610. Time to reflect (pardon the pun!).
