A610 headlight motor

Postby ewan » Wed Jun 29, 2016 4:03 pm

The motor on one of the pop-up headlights on my Venturi Atlantique needs replacing and it has been suggested that its the same as that fitted to the A610. Does anyone know the make/model for such a unit and where I can obtain one?

What's wrong with it?
The motors come from GM USA vehicles and similar models are used in the fwd Elan, and other lotus cars as well as a number of USA cars. There are detailed differences externally but internally they are all very similar,
There are three crushable plastic cylinders inside and a plastic gear. The cylinders age and collapse, then the headlight won't lift, although initally it may sometimes depending on how finely the bits are broken up inside. There are step by step guides on how to do this on the net, and a load of USA based suppliers of the parts if you can't find them in the uk.
Kits are available from lotus specialists (and probably eBay too) to replace the crushable cylinders.
If the gear is stripped, this is is replaceable, I actually have one left over I think. Again lotus specialists
can help.
It's very unlikely the motor will be more damaged than that, but if it is maybe mvs's or stephen have some new motors, or you can buy something similar from the USA and repair yours with the bits.
I'm sure simon Auto's have them for a price too.
If you want more advice, post up a picture and some description of the symptom and I'll see what I can find.

Just incase all else fails, and you cannot get a new motor, I recently replaced both of my units when I rebuilt my A610, so I have the old units at the back of the garage. The motors work fine, and they did both still go up and down, but one was showing signs of dropping and sticking, this is why I changed them, but did both!!
I know the motors are fine... just a thought!!

I am a Lotus specialist and we rebuild loads of these (one of those jobs that is a pain and the cost charged doesn't really cover the time and effort it takes but hey ho). They are obsolete, you'll be lucky to find a new one. They are a tricky little thing (especially when they have been sitting in water for a considerable amount of time in an Esprit) to take apart and put back together but everything is replaceable. You can buy the parts and do it yourself but in my experience, the ones that have been DIY'd tend to come to us shortly after as there is a few little secrets to putting them back together properly.

If I can't find a new (or good second-hand) headlight motor I'll have to go the rebuild route. Mellowyellowa610 could you message me your normal contact details and an idea of the cost of the work?
