Plip remote locking not working

Try that first and let us know, then we can think what else to try.

Rocketman wrote: Thanks for the tip but I have already tried inside the car close up to the eye. The red cover for the eye is also broken; I think this may have happened when the headlining was replaced; the printed circuit board is now exposed and may have been damaged in the process.

First things first, the fact that the red LED lights up does not indicate that the transmitter is working, it only shows that it has good batteries and the push button switch is working.
The only way to really check the plip transmitter is working is to press the plip button whilst viewing it through a digital camera's electronic viewfinder. See pic below:-

You can see the Red LED on the right which will stay on whilst you hold the button down, but it is the Blueish LED that will blink for a fraction of a second. In that blink a series of pulses, which cannot be seen by the eye, containing the code which varies from plip to plip with different mark space ratios depicting the different codes.
Try this first.

Secondly, how broken is the red cover ..... is it in place at all, or is it in pieces which might be repairable, as the receiver will not function correctly without it in place. If it is not in place, the photo diodes will be saturated with general day light which will cause them not to react to the plip. However, it might be worth trying it at night, or in a closed garage where the ambient light level is very low. When I have repaired these, I have had to close the curtains and reduce light levels with forms of covering in order to get them to operate without the cover. Do not be tempted to get too close to them when checking be at least 2 to 3 feet away.
Let us know how you get on. :)

Yes that's true, but you need to get the correct type of key, I bough three or 4 from ebay before getting one the solder connection reprogrammable version, rather than the later electronically programmed type.
The earlier ones you can reprogram them yourself, or reprogram /replace the sender, they come as a pair. So if you get a receiver and a pair of keys from a Clio, swapping out should be OK. Even if the receiver is different, they are based around a common chip and you can modify your cars receiver to work with a pair of different keys (but you need the early type so you can see the program settings)
You will need to swap the key blades over, but that is simple.

John C knows how to do this, but I did manage to reprogram a key for my 610 when I lost one in the past.

Yes Eddie, But if you can get them as a matched pair from any early Clio from a breaker for instance, you will be laughing. However, as Lee says, you cannot be too sure you will get the right type of key fob that we can reprogram by themselves. There are many key fobs on Ebay which look like they are the right type, but the ones that are required are few and far between now. And the matchbox type are just not available.

John

There is no blue blink on my remote through my camera viewer so the remote could be the cause. I know about the dark red cover; it was broken in 3 pieces and I glued it together and it is fitted again. But it was still not working. I tried to remove the receiver unit by pushing it out through the opening of the roof light but it sits very tight and I do not want to break it (further). It there a trick?

You could well be right ...... as a matter of interest, do you intend to come to the meet at Goodwood in August as I could have a look at your plip control there ?

As well as removing the roof light fitting, you will have to remove the trim which holds the light and the sun visors. You will then be able to remove the whole fitting by unscrewing the two screws holding the strap which holds the black plastic housing in place, then you can just unplug the unit from the loom with the circuit board still inside the housing.
BTW, if the interior light does not work when it is replaced you will most probably find the fuse has blown whilst removing it........ it seems to happen every time, ;)
