GTA Turbo Cooling In Hot Weather

Well pleased, long high speed runs yesterday followed by 20 mins of traffic jam on the M25. Engine temp never budged above 90 degrees despite some long stints with plenty of boost showing :). I think this means that I can declare that the cooling system is healthy and that the design works (I have twin fans if that makes a difference)

Sadly the driver did not fair so well. I was going to Hampton Court and it was officially the hottest place in the UK yesterday. I was also suprised at the lack of buffeting with both windows fully open at motorway speeds

Mine's been 'cooking' at just over 90, hitting close to 100 in traffic.
However, it indicates 100 with engine running but then drops to just approaching 90 with engine off. So perhaps a false high reading ??

It does sound as if yours may be over reading although its also seems to behave the way mine did before I installed a new rad.

Now I have the new rad, as soon as the temp creeps past 90 the fans cut in and 30 secs or so of them running brings the temp back to 90. If the car is moving above 20mph the temp just doesnt go above 90.

Yesterday was a good test I was in the hottest place in the UK which showed 32 degrees, I had driven continuously for 2 hours the last hour at constant motorway speeds and then hit traffic and crawled round the M25 from the M40 to the A30 at no more than 20 mph but mostly at 10mph.

And that was my point really. For some reason, is the true reading on the gauge when the engine is off correct?
I'm thinking the gauge is pretty sh$te and inaccurate.
The rad kicks in and cools the car down, so I assume it's kicking in at just over 90 as it's sensor is independent of the engine temp gauge.
It's just that when the gauge indicates just over 100 that I tend to get nervous - head gaskets being fried etc...

Remember, when the engine is running the altenator is lifting the battery voltage to 14,3v or so, when the engine is off, the battery voltage returns to around 12.5v...... this could account for the difference in readings.

Remember, when the engine is running the altenator is lifting the battery voltage to 14,3v or so, when the engine is off, the battery voltage returns to around 12.5v...... this could account for the difference in readings.




Yes, I can accept that however, I would have thought that they'd taken that into account when designing the gauge....... or was that presuming too much :roll:
