No Service History

Postby pgoldsmith » Wed May 18, 2005 9:42 am

I’ve had my car for 2 years now, it’s done 110K but I have no service history so no idea on what work it would have had done prior to me owning it.

Would the headgaskets have been renewed? Clutch perhaps??

Probably not.

Both have a reputation of disintegrating at 111,000 miles

Look forward to some big bills in the near future 8)

Seriously no way of telling easily without dismantling or bills for proof of work. Both can last 100K miles or more depending on how the car's been driven.

Any chance of tracing previous owners?

Tracing previous owners.
Thats the bit I'd like to do , bit of a challenge though.
The guy I bought it off only had it for 4 months and did nothing mechanical to the car.
I know he bought it from a garage in the midlands and it had been standing around for quite a few months hence I had the enjoyable tasks of replacing the perculation fan which kindly seized up along with the two rear calipers..
I was rather hoping the clutch would have already been replaced but as you say unless there is a bill to confirm this I cant tell.

I think you can get a list of previous owners from DVLA for a small fee.

I emailed DVLA as Andrew suggested and for the sum of £5 they will send me a complete owner history of the car.

Anyone else wishing to do the same for their car should send a letter requesting for the information enclosing a cheque for £5 to:

DVLA,

Received a reply from the DVLC, they supplied details of all 6 previous owners whom I've sent a letter requesting for any information they can provide me.
So far I've only had one reply, it was from the second owner who bought the car off his company who in turn bought off Renault UK in Southampton. Interestingly he stated that Renault UK did loan the car to Williams F1 in 1992 for period of time! I noticed there is a Williams F1 Tax disc holder in the car so I guess it was put in there when they used it.
Next I'll write to them to find out why they had it.. :)
