Rear Glass mounting points

Postby pgoldsmith » Wed Apr 24, 2013 12:17 pm

A mate of mine has a 1987 GTA Turbo (the same chap that came to see you Lee about two years ago for some bits) has a problem with the rear engine glass panel. One of the hinges has come away from the bodywork roof.
I believe the hinge bolt screws into a captive nut which is bonded in place in the roof recess. Is my assumption correct, or is it a bit more involved?
Basically he wants to repair the hinge mounting onto the car - is this something that someone here has carried out ?

He has since taken off the glass panel from the car.
He went to move it today and unfortunately it just went bang and exploded.
So he now needs either a replacement glass panel or a fibreglass one.
As both use the original hinge points, he needs to sort out the repair beforehand.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

It is attached to the roll-over bar that runs above the compartment glass and down the sides to attach to the wheelarch pocket .Welded or captive in the rollbar .
Depends how bad it is but he may have to chop away some of the roof to get to it and repair successfully .Weld may be needed and you've got to get it right or it'll go bang again or not fit ......

Thanks Lee, is this the sort of thing that RATS undertakes ?
I know the car isnt mobile at the moment, so either he would need to low loading to somewhere or get someone to come out to it.
