really liking all the new features on the updated forum, well worth the 4 days of downtime!

I wouldn't joke about it, I haven't actually finished the upgrade yet, the old forum just reappeared mysteriously today as if by magic.

I only knew know because the spammers started joining again.

Basically the host tech support is a joke.

This is what happened (in summary).

Friday/Saturday forum disappeared, raised ticket with host.

24hours later a reply to say that phpBB2.X had been withdrawn without warning and I needed to upgrade to phpBB3.X.

Sunday, raised ticket with host, please back up my database so I can upgrade & convert

24 hours later reply to say that it had been backed up.

Monday upgrade installed but server would no pass phpBB 3.X install test. Raised ticket to ask them to resolve this.

24 hours later still no reply and phpBB2.X forum has mysteriously reappeared.

This is a simplification. I have sent countless emails and tickets complaining and the quickest reply I have had so far is 17 hours. It used to be an hour or so max. They are clearly having difficulties so I have made enquires with other hosts to see if they have telephone support and can help with the switch. To dat unsuprisingly no reply either.

If anyone knows a good host then please let me know so I can check it out.

You may, or may not, have noticed that CAR has recently revised their forum. Might be worth an opinion from John Sweet regarding the host.

I used Canaca a while back (several years) for some cheap n cheerful phpbb hosting.. at work we are putting more and more stuff on AWS.

Yes John told me he did it over Easter.

On the plus side stats show that we are getting closer to 1 million hits a month. Think peak was approx 987,000 at the moment.
