I had a Megane Scenic RX4 new, 2003. I did over 200,000 miles in it in 9 years and it never missed a beat. Apart from regular servicing (18K intervals) and normal wear and tear bits I spent nothing on it, by far the most reliable car I have ever owned.
However, I think that there is an element of luck in car buying, some are good some are bad, unfortunately you usually find out a couple of weeks after buying.
