Where to place axle stands?

Postby blueg33 » Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:10 pm

I need to get under the car. All the other cars I have worked on used a space frame so it was easy to place stands. Where do I place them on the GTA? Obviously I will jack using the jacking points.

Cheers

Jack on the sub-frame as well whenever possible under an upright of the frame .It is far better when you want the whole rear up .I tend only to use the jacking point for a quick wheel change .
Jack on the very rear just past the engine mount then place the stands under the other upright further forward .

If you have a look at the GTA manual on this site it does show some front jacking points but also puts some limits on their use.
I'm away now otherwise i'd put the page up, but you are best downloading it from the technical section.
On an A610 it's safe to jack at the front behind the front wheel when they were new, generally not so when they get older. GTA manual is more restricted so I'd recommend you have a look before doing it.
Don't jack on the box sections near the front suspension they aren't strong enough and you'll dent them.
