The 'black tape' held all the way home.

750miles from Macon to home and it did n't miss a beat.

Dini made it home too.......but only at 80 all the way.

Yes made it home only limited to 3k revs though and hardly any boost, but at least it's good to know if your TPS goes breaks you can still drive it if you unplug it. :wink:

Just to put members in the picture, Phildini asked me to check his TPS with his meter to see if it was OK, it appeared to be open circuit, so to be on the safe side, I checked it with my meter, still the same. Then some one said "we need to check another TPS from another 610"...... poor old Jason`s 610 was parked alongside, so in we went, disconnected his TPS, and we found it to be OK on the meter. So Phildini now knew what his problem was. Problem solved....or so we thought. When we reconnected Jason`s TPS, the car would not idle...... Anyway what had happened was the insulation around the three wires emanating from the TPS were so brittle due to heat, that it all fell off once disturbed, leaving bare wires which were now touching each other. So we had to tape the wires as best we could as the TPS could not be removed as it had been lock tighted in and there was a risk of snapping off the fixings. So taping was the only option under the circumstances. However, in a way, it was a blessing in disguise for at any time the insulation would have just fallen away, and possibly caused a problem on the road. (well thats what I told Jason :lol: )
Because of the fact that the TPS was at one end of the wires and a 3 way plug at the other, made it difficult to do a really good job in wrapping the individual wires in the (hot) confined space, but we managed a bit of a botch job :cry:...Oh, and thanks to the guy who kindly held an umbrella over me as it then decided to rain!!!
The reason I relate this story is that there is a product on the market which if something similar happens to any engine wiring, have a small length of this spiral wrap which will insulate the wires from each other easily and effectively available from Maplins. The 3mm one would do perfectly. Have a look at this link and see what you think...it could be worth carrying a bit in your spares box.

Also I now realise I had some at home and the pic below shows how easy it is to fit even in a confined space.......but, sods law, I did not have any with me in Macon. Mine is actually 5mm OD, which would have been a bit big for the TPS wires, but of course, would have done in the absence of anything else.

I seem to remember seeing some liquid rubber in a bottle (a bit like a tipex bottle). Could be a wise investment for issues like this/JB... I'll do some searching on the inter web.
