which is why the standard 5 turbo 2 had a 0-60 time of less than a standard GTA turbo? :)

Never ever seen a 0-60 stat of the Turbo 2 when it was new and unmodified faster than a GTA Turbo. Show me the proof and I will stand corrected though.....

Ride back was slippy as car is on slicks at the rear :(

Depends where you get your figures from

Very true.

In standard form:

Renault 5 Turbo approx 165bhp per ton

Renault GTA Turbo approx 170bhp per ton

So not much in it on paper.

However the quoted factory times for the GTA Turbo were very conservative and the factory quoted times for the Turbo 2 a little optimistic.

Typical factory figures (Renault Literature)

5 Turbo 0-60 6.6 Top speed 124mph
GTA Turbo 0-60 7s Top speed 155mph

Typical test figures (Contemporary magazines)

5 Turbo 0-60 7.4 Top speed 122mph
GTA Turbo 0-60mph 5.8 secs Top speed 153mph

There is no doubt that in standard form the GTA is considerably faster in a straight line in part due to the much better aerodynamics.

5 Turbo can be very quick through the twisty bits in the right hands especially in higher tune.

0-60 figures were down to as low as 6.4 seconds with the 180 hp and 210 hp kits and works cars had a top speed of around 136 mph.

5 Turbo is a 1.4, FOUR cylinder, running 70's injection system how can you compare the two!!!!

Funny thing is when i bought the T2, Young Steve had the GTA which i think was standard then, At the time i moaned how slow the T2 felt. i was shocked to learn that he couldnt stay with me in the GTA :) The GTA did feel faster when i drove it with its longer gearing though.
The above was a rolling straight line race.

ITS TRUE HONEST :)

Same with the Mk2 Clio V6, It felt OK to drive (In a sraight line) but shock horror when he came by me in his GTT (OK it wasnt/isnt standard, but it isnt producing megga power like some), Thats one of the reasons its gone, A nice car but a master at nothing

it does depend where you get your figures from- google was my friend on this one. i reckoned on the 5 turbo having shorter ratios than the GTA.

i read somewhere the CD of the 5 turbo was 0.45 ish, which is about as good as housebrick.

as an ex owner of a 5 turbo 2, i'd also say the 0-60 were alittle optimistic as the turbo was so laggy as standard. Although don't be fooled into thinking that as its a lowly 4 pot that they aren't tunable. Phil- the 70's injection can be tuned too, no problem there.;) i can point you in the right direction.

Fastest car at La Vie en Blue 2009 was Tony Hart in his 5GTT. Beat everything even Mr Gibsons hillclimb special A110.

Anyway Mr pgoldsmith as the above made things a bit clearer?

Yes thanks everyone, whilst the GTA may be fraction faster in std trim, the mid engineed 5 does look as fast if not faster.

Sorted all the bits out today, have had this kit over 3 years and nothing to bolt it too, very tempting now the car is here...

Needs a set of low comp pistons though.
