back for the next 6 months

Postby kjclymo » Sun Apr 05, 2009 7:14 pm

Hi those that remember me from the Welsh meet last year. Got home late and tired after brilliant day and tucked car away safely. Unwrapped her today, charged battery up and bloody hell she started first turn of the key.. So as of tomorrow looking for insurance - was with classic line for £265 for 5000 miles and excess of £250. Can anyone recommend a company that might be cheaper?

Need some bits and pieces to make life easier so will be messaging in the for sale and wanted section of the forum, Best wishes to turbodog, clee and Martin. Just going to look through last 6months happenings to try and catch up.

£265 fully comp for a dodgy school teacher seems pretty good value to me

We are having another run to Wales later this month if you fancy a run out?

cantt make it, need the dosh to get car insured, mot and tax. I was just pleased it started and ran. Also need bit and bobs such as fan heater motor thing, door inges, and some bit of metal and rubber that will help me select reverse easier. anyway your quarterly northern meet must be soon. who said cheshire was in the north. so will try and make that. must get those leather seats in soon as well.

well back to reality.

failed mot, (though still got 3 weeks left on old one) some rear end welding, both to subframe and rear arm suspension and or new bits. and that was it. sadly mechanic enjoying sun in portugal so will have to wait till next week when he gets back. will insure and tax this week so can run it legal and get work done next week if poss.

and just to top it off for some reason out of the blue, passenger wing mirror fell off. bit of white plastic inside mirror that holds mirror to the door of the car appears to have snapped, age? So at moment held on by the metal joint thing and some masking tape.

When I know more detail and have had a look myself at the rot will be in touch martin. so depending on next weeks bills etc may well try and get across to cheshire to pick up some bits while i am still on holiday

No worries Ken, Keep the faith.

Welding should not be an issue as long as it's not too close to the body.

This is normal. They modified this on later cars. The plastic hinge was replaced by a metal screw on one. You can retro fit if the dmage isn't too bad and you have the parts from a later mirror that was otherwise wrecked.

Thanks you two, I was feeling a bit down yesterday. Plans for driving it around this April seem to have gone out the window. Will know more next Thursday when booked into garage to see extent of rot, and obviously how near shell it all is. Am bit worried now in case chassis and subframe and other metal bits are all in similar condition. So does anyone have mirror bits. Mirror completely intact except for that bit of plastic. Looking for second job for the wife so she can pay for it all!!!!!!
