A610 idle too fast

My A610 starts fine and idles correctly. Once I press the accelerator it revs too high on idle, I turn off and start up again and it idles correctly. Any ideas?

If it's anything like the GTA it'll be the idle valve sticking .It needs spraying through with some carb cleaner .

THat's a good idea however if it was, wouldn't it stay stuck open when I turn off and then on again?

when you switch off the ignition you also stop the power going to the ISCV, which can then go back to its shut off postion.

like lee says, give it a clean out.

3-wire idle valves have no "zero" position, they stay put when the power is disconnected. That said, the action of starting whacks them fully open, probably enough of a thump to get it to move, and does indeed need a bit of a clean.

Count yourself lucky, my V keeps insisting on idling too friggin slowly and almost stalling. Going to re-wire the ECU as I'm fed up trying to chase the dodgy connectors :twisted:

OK, I have emtied a can of carb cleaner and still the same problem. Is there anything else that might cause the same symptoms?

If not I'll just get a new idle valve but I want to consider all other options?

Good idea, that would make sense. I take it the throttle position sensor is on the intake. I'll have a ferret about for it.

How do I test it and is it a serviceable item or do I just get a new one?

I love how helpful everyone is on here - great stuff, thanks.

Is there anything else I should try. The car is going great other than this.

Yes its on the intake, if i remember correctly you want to turn on the ignition, check the voltage is 0.5v at idle, move the throttle butterfly and the voltage should drop, the important part for your problem will be when it goes back to idle it should read 0.5v again.

My problems continue and I'm sure it is neither the idle valve or TPS. I've replaced the idle valve and the TPS did have a problem so that has been replaced too. It also appeared to be set in the wrong position.

I have noticed that the engine can be idling high and then there is a noise like some kind of sprung valve closing. I can't locate the noise but it is on the opposite side from the idle valve. The idle goes back to normal when I hear the valve shut.

Any more ideas as to what it could be?

That sounds like the ac cutting in and out. With AC on, the ECU raises the idle, but not by much. It's all in software and uses the same valve. I guess the click is the AC compressor clutch cutting in and out - presumably it's not a modern variable orifice type.

Maybe. there's quite a significant increase in idle revs with my 610 when the aircon is on.

As said above check the air con pump and see if the front of the pulley(clutch) is spinning when the revs rise, if your air con is not turned on and the pump is running its most likely a wiring issue. If your air con is on and this is happening you have no problem
