Starting Problems

Postby kjclymo » Mon May 19, 2008 2:33 pm

Not starting again at least more often than not. Crank Speed Sensor diagnosed last time.

Same symptoms as before. So probably same sensor. Anybody know what the underlying problem is.

Very frustrating especially as only been back on road 16 days and with Martins Azev's it looks and has been running beautifully.

No expensive fixes though am skint.

Hi Ken,

Could be something else so hold your foot up!

Is it not starting from cold, could be the cold start sensor?

If it's when it's hot it could be the Crank sensor cable at the injector end, Turbodog told me about this and although I have not driven the car much after a wiggle and clean of the contacts it's not done it since.

Cheers,

Martin

Thanks Martin

Of course when my friend triker Dave comes out to look at the problem it starts from cold on first turn just like normal. So he checked all the leads etc. It had new distr cap leads plugs last time before discovered crank sensor. So last night was unable to go through the obvious is it sparking, is petrol getting through etc because it started.

He suggested might be faulty ignition coil. And would just like to replace.

So - does anyone have one to try - dont want to buy if it isnt the problem. Can I get the coil from any other model Renault.

To add salt to the wound fired up first time again this morning . Daren't use it though case I can't get home.

I think it's pretty common the coil across the renault range.

PM me your address and I will send you one to try, I'm sure I have a GTA one and a 21 Turbo one and they look identical.

Had similar problem.
Turned out to be the coil. It was intermittent and sometimes would be fine, but it got worse.

Trust you've checked the usual suspects.....the earths :)

Coil on its way to me I hope courtesy of Martin. Thanks! Started again this morning so have driven it to work. Its sunny and its a good start to the day.

About checking the earths, I occasionally get a flashing light on warning panel. (one to the right of steering wheel with banks of icons). It flashes so quick and off again not even sure its just one may be two different ones that flash nor am I sure which one(s) it is. third one in from right on top bank maybe. Good aren't I Doh!
