Atmo Triple Solex's setup.... ??

Yes, been setting up the triple carbs on the car for about 6 months now! Fine tuning, adjust mixture screw/ drive for 20 miles/ check plug colour... and start again.... Was amazed when the carbs were set to very lean running how bad the Mpg was, as low as maybe 12, seems that to richen the mix have to turn the double ones IN and the single OUT!!! took me a while to realise that
well I got the car now doing about 18 urban and maybe 26 on a run odd, acceptable I guess..... just wondered what experience other have had of seeting these carbs up, they seem really sensitive and if 1/4 a turn out can totally throw the whole running of the car.... The doubles are nearly screwed all the way in maybe an 1/8th of a turn out, if that .... what about the single carb? hmmn, seem difficult to set up to me as there is 3 of them that don't all work together..... ?? well, is it a wise idea to put the thing on a tuning jig/ and pay 150 squids in the process, or am I doing the right thing trying to learn/ set it up myself? I don't often trust so called 'professionals', as the saying goes 'if you want a job done properly then do it yourself'. Cynical somewhat but maybe true?!!

The best way to set up any carb or injection is with a gas analyser - you then can set the mixture to the correct readinig - only if it is a 4 gas type though.....
I have such a thing and I am in Kent - so I could be bribed to measure it for you!!!

If you have the OEM carb setup you can't go far wrong by following the setup procedure in the workshop manual. It's fairly complicated though and runs over several pages.

You will need the gas analyzer to check the CO at some point.

best thing is to learn ya self i did when i was running my triple webers i spent a lot of time and money with so called carb experts from a few of our local well known tuning experts and to tell the truth they messed it up every time and give some excuse about this and that for it not running correctly
i bought a weber manual took them apart my self overhauled them and set them up my self and those who did have the oppertunity to go in my car when it was running them were fairly impressed (the suitcase is another story lol)

I am now touring Europe in the Alpine. Excellent handing Mpg (32!) the thing flies on the motorway! its a perculiar car I think and gets alot of interest......
When I return maybe I can visit you, Paul and we discuss more and maybe also your tuning machine is good? Surely though I must have nearly perfect setup? 32 mpg and the thing accelerates with a real 'bang!' Great. Plug colour excellent. I think I got the doubles spot on but my only concern is the single carb? I think this may need the machine?

Anyway thanks alot for the knowledge and we can maybe hook up, also AlpineRob you must be near me in East Sussex? Wish I bought an A610!!! Did anyone see that one on Ebay, May the sale. Previously in a museum in Singapore? It looked geniune? Red, only 20,000 miles odd and I think it sold for only £8,000! I would have bought it but didn't didn't have the space...... mine has only done 40,000 miles. So far its running great but it did get slightly hot in the Alps but fine. yes for sure good cars.....
