The tacho itself may be shorting the ignition. On the input to the tacho there is a capacitor that can short with age.

Squirted some switch cleaner on the connectors to the Renix unit. I think (hope) thats cured it.

Failed MOT on minor items (Foglight & Handbrake not working correctly) but I asked them to do a coolant pressure check as the car loses a little fluid each week.

Turns out that there was a slight weep at the thermostat housing and under pressure there's a big split at one of the radiator hoses !
Just thankful it wasnt something more sinister like head gaskets !!
