Heater fan

Postby darrenbiggs » Thu Dec 28, 2006 4:46 pm

Can anyone tell me how you remove the heater fan (blower) from under the front scuttle?

It sounds like the bearings have gone on the motor so I wanted to take it out and see if they would grease up or could be replaced. However actually removing the unit seems to be a pig - there's not enough clearance.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Should be a doddle. Just undo the 3 nuts and it will 'pull' out, though you will need to do a little tugging...

Unless you have aircon?

IIRC, you can pull the motor out of the housing, without having to remove the whole unit (might have to move the inner bulkhead panel)

If I can be bothered to get off the sofa, I will have a look..

Nope no air-con.

I assume you're pulling so it comes out the drivers side? I just found that whether I was trying to pull the unit out as a whole, or even just the fan, there was not enough space between the curve of the boot liner and the bulkhead.

Maybe I just need to twist it round and apply a bit more force!

If the bulkhead is a problem, there are two small 8mm bolts holding it to the strut top on the drives side. Undo these, and it will move quite a bit if that makes it easier..

Remember to lift the heater cowling about an inch vertically as it also sits on locating dowels.
