Maybe...things have progressed quite far now, and its all about setup, and even though a carb is basic compared to efi, they can get a 'safer' setup by excess fuel dumping. The fastest GT turbo is running nearly 40psi on standard liners and the bottom end is the same as the T2.

Apart from the head is everything the same? its really strange this 15 psi life or death thing and its younger brother(GTT) is fine(ish) :?

Well..head an and all ancillaries that go with it. It is a better flowing head and manifolds turbo etc, so 15psi on a T2, is flowing more air than 15psi on a GTT, but the main problems with det etc, is due to the limitations of the old sewing machine K-Jet system...

You have to remember, these GT's may have tiny carbs, but most of them are all running reconditioned good as new parts, where many of these T2's that may have failed probably have the original untouched 25 year old fuel injection, pump, injectors, sensors etc....If a sensor is faulty then it can cause a severe problem on a tuned engine - the GTT doesnt have this problem...

If it is like a prison, you need to get out a bit more.
May your wish come true, see you at Donnington then.

gt turbo liners will split on high boost due to the cylinder pressures acting on them . A big boost gt turbo on standard liners won't last long unless it is subject to short bursts of full boost but even then expect to rebuild the engine regularly . A 15 psi engine though will last ages , as the level of boost increases over this level the engines life is dramatically shortened . Uprated liners will stop this though , a t2 engines liners are the same strength as a gt turbos liners . As david correctly states most t2's are running on shitty , knackered old fuel systems so they will always break/blow up first !!!!

Yep, hence a nice standalone unit and a good chargecooler... 8)

yes david , add steel liners , 1550 long stroke crank , forged pistons , gt28 turbo , 1.5 bar of boost and not much will keep up !!!!! Would cost £15,000 though

So the last word on water injection?

A/ Is it worth installing? (Considering what was said on the topic re; charge temps, bhp gains ect

B/ Would it allow running a touch more boost?

C/ Richard at Aquamist as recomended using a 50-50 mix or water and methanol, any views on the use of methanol?

Think i need a holiday

yes water injection is good on a T2 and cheaper and easier than a charge cooler install , you can use 50/50 water mix with screen wash/methanol if you like but water on it's on is good enough really . You can only run more than 15 psi on a turbo 2 if you've got extra fueling on boost , water injection / charge cooler and a properly working dizzy . Don't expect the engine to last long though on long hard full boost runs etc . I've blow them to bits before and it ain't a pretty site !!!!
