Dump valves

Do dump valves wear?
Mine I believe is the original one and after 13 years I wondered if perhaps if it wasnt working correctly.
Anybody have any thoughts on this ?

Theres already a thread somwhere on the site already, I think Steve should put in a search function.

The original plastic unit is terrible as the piston in side can stick and the springs get weak. Its always good to replace as its the weakest link in the boost circuit.

To cut a long story short, if you take off your standard dump valve and press it in and it moves side to side noticably then you probably need a new one.....there are a few available.....I paid £50 for mine (from David) and its a cool chrome look one. If you want a Bailey piston type then it'll cost you about £85. apparently the standard one shouldnt flutter when you lift off....if it does then its about finished (although it does sound good, and the replacement type do this on purpose!)

Thanks, I should have checked previous threads - which I've done now..
I take the said item off and check it out.
My boost gauge only reads 2/3s across when on full throttle and I'm led to believe the needle should be close to the gap on the rhs.

The standard gauges are never accuurate and vary from car to car. They actually have a screw thread which allows the position of the needle to be adjusted.

Again always best off with an aftermarket gauge to see exactly what the car is doing. A standard GTA should be running 11 psi but there is no way of telling this from the standard gauge.
