Tappet settings

Postby simonsays74 » Fri Jul 16, 2004 7:07 pm

does anybody know the correct procedure for setting tappets on the turbo engine???? i read that you could get 1 set of valves rocking on 1 bank and you are able to set all tappets on the oposite bank, and vice versa! tried this and i think the info was crap! the top end of the engine is sound, ie no wear on the cam lobes or rocker fingers. any ideas? maybe someone has the renault workshop manual or has set them before.

Look under the Technical help section of this web site. Page 89 of the Engine Manual details the two methods that can be used to adjust the rocker arm clearances. I'm sure that there's a section in the Owners manual that has the same information also.

Does this second method work for the turbo engine :?: the engine manual says' all types ' but the workshop manual notes Z6W only and no mention of Z7U :?

If not, how do you set them :?:

It works on all the engines. I use the "second" method because the explanation is so much simpler than the first!

Basically get it at TDC #1

Turn engine to the right and see if within 1/4 of a turn the inlet valve on #1 starts to open. If it doesn't, turn back left to TDC - this is then TDC firing stroke. If the inlet valve starts to open, keep turning to the right till you get back to #1 TDC

With TDC #1 Firing stroke, you can now adjust

Inlet 1 2 4
Exhaust 1 3 6

Then turn the engine 360 degrees so #1 is at TDC "on the rock" and adjust

Inlet 3 5 6
Exhaust 2 4 5

Inlet to 0.1mm
Exhaust to 0.25mm

for high lift cams

Inlet to 0.25mm
Exhaust to 0.32mm

And I'd highly recommend drilling out the oil jets on the rockers to 1mm if going high lift

Hope this helps
