Suspected ignition switch failure

Postby ken clymo » Mon Dec 05, 2005 11:14 am

Had to call out Green Flag on Sunday. Engine whizzing over but refuses to fire from key, can push it off and it starts easy. The mechanic said that no spark to plugs when key at 2 and turning engine over but that a spark was noticed when key turned back to 1 just ignition lights and then off. He said this is a common fault in Ren 19's and 25 's and that I need to replace the ignition switch from the rear of the steering lock. Is he right? If he is which starter and ignition connector do I get? According to the manual there is a grey one and a black one.
Also if this part is needed can I get one from scrap 19 or 25?

Im looking into this for my on-going cutting out problem at the moment, as when mine cuts out no lights apear on the dash. So im thinking the problem must be before the ignition barrel because all the igniton parts seem to switch off when it does it...Ill give Renault a ring and find out the cost and how much of a job changing it is.

Got my ignition barrel yesterday and the kit also comes with, door locks and the glove box lock. Bit of a bargain i think, especially as it came from Renault!!!
