I discussed this car with the liquidatotors earlier in the summer. They turned down my "buy it now" offer of, from memory, £30k. Partly because they think/know it'll fetch more and partly (I assume) because by going through an open public auction no one can claim they didn't try hard enough to achieve true value for the creditors. Which is fair enough.

I'll probably bid on it now though. Why settle for owning 50% of the U.K. stock of bi-turbo Atlantiques when I can have 100%!?!

This is a beautiful car, inside and out, but when down at Mâcon a few years ago it was having overheating problems and couldn't come out to play on the main navigation rally days.
I'm sure Richard, its then owner said the layout is definitely handbuilt super car as it's engine and subframe need to come out out for a plugs or cam belt change.
See I'm trying hard to persuade myself that I don't really want it, even if I had the money....

It's not unusual for a mid engined super car to have its engine out for a cambelt change. For cars like its contemporary Ferrari (the 355) this needs doing every 3 years, irrespective of mileage. Obviously the plugs need replacing less often, but while you gave the engine out, why wouldn't you change them? (Rhetorical)

For the Atlantique, especially as an occasional summer use car, an engine out service every 5 years should be more than adequate. And cheaper than a set of brake discs and pads on my Quattroporte (for example) so not really a big deal.

So, do expect it cost more to run than an A610, but it'll still be less than comparibles such as the Maserati 3200, Ferrari 355, or even the Porsche 996. Of course, it'll cost more to buy than the Maz or Porker also, but it's 1 of only 12 built (and 1 of only 3 built in RHD), as opposed to a couple of thousand 3200's and tens of thousands of 996's. Frankly I can't believe how cheap these incredibly rare cars actually are. To drive one is to buy one.

That is also the price the dealer wanted when I enquired a few months before they became insolvent.

Richard was trying to sell it for £35k for about 2 years. Not sure what he got for it in the end.

Interesting to see what it does fetch. I predict the £35k, I hope I'm wrong though.

I believe Richard did get approximately that figure. But of course, the classic and sports car market has boomed considerably since then. Chatting to one the UK's most informed classic car experts, he pointed out that cars from the 1990's are doing particularly well, especially the very rare examples - so this Venturi really fits the bill for the boom.

That said, this is hardly a mainstream auction and without the exposure provided by Coys, Bonhams or similar, there's a fair chance the car won't reach a large enough audience for it to reach it's true top value.

At £35k I'd call it cheap. But you never know, it may go for that.

One additional point. The piece in the magazine mentions there being 2 RHD UK cars. But when I met with Tony Boulet at Extreme Limite a month or so back, he mentioned that there were 3, and showed me pictures of each. It appears that one may have gone missing though, as I can't find a trace of it currently.

That's interesting. What colour is the missing Bi Turbo? Any Reg Plate info?

It's the same dark blue as mine, with the same tan interior, and I have a picture of it parked (with no number plate) in a London muse (maybe outside the original Venturi/Aston dealership). But for all I know, this picture could actually be of my car. I'm taking Tony's word for the fact that it is another (but identical spec) car.

According to Tony, my car (no. 45) was the first, then Richard's light blue car (no. 63) was second, with the third and final RHD bi-turbo being no. 64.

Here is car no. 64 (apparently - though it could be my one):

£50,000 !!!!!!!

I would be surprised if it made that but if somebody wants it bad enough on the day who knows? I have seen reports of cars at auction just as I am sure all of you have breaking the estimate by some margin and others not even raising interest never mind the reserve. Be good for the resale values though if it goes for the £50,000.
